Give me a break! Pizza anyone?

My “fat suit”

I’m currently a sumo. Feeling  larger than life, but unfortunately I can’t seem to wriggle out of my “fat suit”.

No one really told me that once you give up breastfeeding you seem to put on all this weight. My plight was not helped when this coincided with a very busy, social few summer months.

But along with feeling like I’m carrying a whole lot more ….well “fat” than I used to, the clothes issue is something that I feel like I need to get some oxygen and sit down before I can write anymore…

I have this second wardrobe in the spare room of “the clothes I will fit into when I have the baby” then it was “the clothes I will fit into when I give up breastfeeding” and now….”the clothes I will fit into when I lose my fat suit” . The horror is I’m suddenly feeling like I will never open this wardrobe door again!

When I decided to go back to work and couldn’t fit into one piece of clothing – I need more than just oxygen!

Some pieces of clothing fit (yes – true!) but that doesn’t really count when they fit in all the wrong places. Where the hell did all those new lumps and bumps come from?? Damn the fat suit.

If I think logically, it has been nearly two years since I have bought a new piece of “professional” looking clothing due to being pregnant and then breastfeeding.  However it is so devastating that all my lovely and carefully chosen suits, pants, dresses …now just don’t fit.

So I might be in denial but I don’t want to admit defeat just yet that I’m never going to fit into this wardrobe again so I’m going to go for a few strategic pieces to get me through this “fat suit phase” until  I can take this suit off.

I’ve gone for the basics – black and white: pants, stretchy tops, jackets. I seriously think there is a market for personal stylists for new mums (just throwing it out there!!). Perhaps they already exist?

So the fat suit may be here to stay, although I hope one day I can open that wardrobe door and fit into some of my old clothing. My husband tells me he loves me no matter what size I am and I know that should be enough. But I do want to also feel good in my own skin – for me. Possibly for him. Definitely for my baby.

But what I can promise you is even if I don’t shake this fat suit in the foreseeable future I’ll certainly be wearing more than a mawashi when I head out the door.

This little  sumo will clothed – whether in slightly bigger clothing or perhaps one day in an old favourite.

Have you had the lovely experience of a fat suit? How did you manage your wardrobe without spending a fortune?
