The Sticky Business of Nappy Bags

This review seems to have had our readers a little unstuck?

Nappy Bags seems to be an area where there is a lot of products on the market but not a lot of people in love with nappy bags in general.

Feedback was split:

  • 33% of people of people said just go with an ordinary cross body tot, backpack or messenger bag rather than a specific labelled “Nappy/Baby Bag”.
  • 33% provided  recommendations on brands they would recommend (see below)
  • 33% said they would like recommendations /suggestions as they didn’t know

To start with here are the attributes parents have recommended that you need to shop for – whether it is specific nappy bag or just a ordinary bag:

Attribute Things to look for
Straps Sturdy straps that are large enough to fit across pram handles
Outside Pockets Outside pockets (a must for quick access!!) rather than rummaging around trying to find what you are looking for on the inside of the bag
Bag Opening Good opening – a zip ideal! You don’t want to have a bag that is hard to open or fiddly like a latch when you have an emergency!(My cousin calls its a number 3 as some poo’s have their own definition and are much more than a number 2!)
Inside pockets Inside pockets of course that are big enough to fit a bottle of water/ bottles for milk. Also it is good to have different sections for the baby/kids stuff and your stuff (i.e. cosmetics/ phone)
Durability Durable fabric that is easy to wipe down – you will use this bag EVERYWHERE. So it can get dirty easily and needs to be easily cleaned. Consider the inside AND outside fabric’s ability to be cleaned easily
Size Size is really up to the parent. Some like a big to fit everything in, some like it less bulky

Another key recommendation was the baby roll/ portable baby essential kit that includes a mat and easy to take by itself in the pram or put in any bag you are taking out that day.

I have to say I have one myself and it is extremely useful- particularly if you are just going up the street or sending Dad for a walk. You can just put it in the pram or a bag. These below are from Skip Hop. They are cute and have many different designs to choose from.

For those who are still asking….”ok but give me some brands of nappy bags to help me start my research”.

Here are some recommendations from our parents surveyed  on what they consider the best nappy/ baby bags on the market to help you:

Isle of Charlie

REAL leather bag that is large and stylish. Comes with Mummy essentials (all removable) such as change mat, bottle warmer so you can use it as a normal handbag post baby.
